The dökkálfar, also known as dark elves, are a humanoid species adept in the ways of seiðr and other magick. The dökkálfar receive their abilities from Máni, the moon god.

Physical Appearance

Dökkálfar commonly have pointed ears. Additionally, dökkálfar are taller on average than their human counterparts. While most races native to Nordheim are fair-skinned, the dökkálfar are the only notable dark-skinned race.

Government

The dökkálfar are generally believed to have a true democracy, in which every individual's vote is equally weighed. Each clan or city-state self-governs; there is no major country-wide government body in Svartalfheim, where most dökkálfar reside.

Magick

There appear to be no variations in power or use of magick within the dökkálfar population. All dökkálfar appear equally adept with focus given to transmutation-based galdr (spoken incantation).

The Dökkálfar

During Nordheim's first age, the dökkálfar were at war with the ljósálfar (the light elves) regarding power and culture. Given the polarity of their power sources, this was generally assumed to be the primary reason for conflict. Though they reside on opposite ends of the continent, the tension between the two races is still palpable.
