The ljósálfar, also known as light elves, are a humanoid species adept in the ways of seiðr and other magick. The ljósálfar receive their abilities from Sól, the sun goddess.

Physical Appearance

Ljósálfar commonly have pointed ears. Additionally, ljósálfar are taller on average than their human counterparts. There are no other noticeable differences between ljósálfar and human anatomy.

Government

The ljósálfar are generally believed to have an oligarchy, in which several clans exist under various dróttinn (clan leaders). These clan leaders then convene on the overall infrastructure and governing ideas surrounding Alfheim, where most ljósálfar reside.

Magick

Though some ljósálfar have pointed ears, it is generally believed that the more powerful the ljósálfar, the more human they appear. As such, it is a common trend for ljósálfar to espouse human counterparts in attempts to give the illusion of power. It should be noted that half-human, half-ljósálfar appear to have more powerful magick at their disposal than pure ljósálfar do.

The Dökkálfar

During Nordheim's first age, the ljósálfar were at war with the dökkálfar (the dark elves) regarding power and culture. Given the polarity of their power sources, this was generally assumed to be the primary reason for conflict. Though they reside on opposite ends of the continent, the tension between the two races is still palpable.
